Don Giovanni Staging Project
This production of Don Giovanni will highlight the destructiveness of misogyny, keep the reality of sexual violence at the forefront of discussion, and showcase the potential of empowered women to push back against oppression and violence.
Other Considerations
- Instruments will be on stage playing during the party scene (this does not appear to be standard).
- Pivotal moment: when Donna Anna, Donna Ottavia, and Donna Elvira decide to work together, emphasizing the power that can come from women working together and not feeling isolated.
- Scene to be cut: Zerlina's knife scene; I do not want to introduce more complications to her character. I would like her to remain a comic character.
- Comic moments will be utilized throughout the opera, such as between Zerlina and Masetto when they are reconciled and later on in the opera, and also almost anytime Leporello is on stage.
